Sun shining through clouds with open Bible

The Glory of God

“…rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
(Romans 5:2)

The Israelites saw the Glory of the LORD in a cloud. Psalms sing praises of the Glory of the LORD; Isaiah foretells the Redeemer coming in glory; Ezekiel describes his encounter with Glory of the LORD; and Habakkuk extols the knowledge of the Glory of the LORD. The shepherds of Luke stood in awe at the Glory of God; Stephen was a witness to the Glory of God; Paul saw the Glory of God in the face of Jesus; and John described the light of the Glory of God as replacing the sun and the moon.

The new name, “Bahá’u’lláh”, means the Glory of God, or Glory of the LORD. The Arabic word, “Bahá”, means glory, light, or splendor. The letter “u” means “of”, and “llah” is short for Allah, the Arabic word for God, or the Lord. The terms, “glory of God” and “glory of the LORD” appear dozens of times in the Bible, from the time of Moses until the Book of Revelation:

“And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.” (Exodus 24:16)

“Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.” (Exodus 40:34 )

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” (Psalms 19:1)

“The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.” (Psalms 104:31)

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” (Isaiah 60:1)

“As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.” (Ezekiel 1:28)

“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

“And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.” (Luke 2:9)

“But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God…” (Acts 7:55)

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2)

“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11)

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6)

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” (Revelation 21:33)
